I met with a new client earlier this week, and the beginning of the session she apologized to me and said “I’m not photogenic.” This is a SUPER common statement made be clients early on in a session, and when this is said, I happily correct them, and reaffirm these points.
Bad hair day? Your eyebrows don’t look their best? You’re not at your goal weight? Your outfit isn’t perfect? It’s a busy day? You just took a picture of/with them last week?
You won’t have a day like today again. They’ll be too old to fit in your lap someday. You never know when your last photo with somebody will be taken. Even if you’re in a rush, stopping for 30 seconds to take a photo isn’t the end of the world.
So this blog is dedicated to my wonderful family, who were always my fist line of cheerleaders when I had doubts, my classmates and friends who sat through long lectures and labs with me (and sometimes shared their food), my professors who have pushed me farther than I knew I could go and helped me see my potential, and my community of people who have helped me along the way.
I came across this talk done by Ingrid Fetell Lee in which she discusses the common threads she found during her search for what part of imagery helps us has human beings feel joy-regardless of age, gender, or region.
This wedding at Olympia Hills Event Center was an absolute dream! After having over seven years of experience photographing weddings, I can say with confidence that Joe and Chelsea’s wedding was one of the happiest and most successful weddings I had ever seen.
I had been developing my concept for my project for my last two years at The Art Institute of San Antonio, and I’m glad that I made it in the timeline that I did. Over my time at school, I’ve developed my own personal style and approach to portrait and product photography and that’s how I’ve found that technique I used for this project.
Artists create a piece of work, on their preferred subjects, with carefully selected mediums. They’re aware of color, balance, texture, shape, and how all of those things affect their final masterpiece. The typical idea of a traditional artist stays in the realm of painters, sculptors, photographers, and those who draw, but I want to challenge the title and attitude of acceptance to be expanded to makeup artists as well.

There’s only so many instructions a two-year-old will take in, so it’s good to have a game plan for when little feet are in the mood to run. Here are some tips that I’ve learned from the last few children sessions I’ve done.
